The Dictionary encompasses disciplines that are significantly less popular in Poland than in the West, particularly in English-speaking countries. These fields have been developing for years, supported by established academic systems, professional associations, and a wealth of literature and periodicals. This growth has enhanced awareness and resulted in high-quality landscaping, a rarity in Poland, not solely due to material wealth. To reach a similar level of quality in our landscaping, we must learn from foreign experiences. Basic research reveals a lack of translations of English-language classics in landscape architecture, with original works being scarce in Polish libraries. The situation is slightly better regarding professional periodicals, yet the entry for "landscape design" is absent in our Popular Great Encyclopaedia, while it spans about ten pages in the Encyclopaedia Britannica. This gap hinders professional exchanges, research, and projects. Consequently, the creation of this Dictionary has been initiated. It includes entries on professional terminology, notable figures, methods, significant events, legislative acts, and key locations. Many entries feature brief explanatory notes and bibliographic references, totaling over 100 items of essential literature that remain largely unknown in Poland.
