Jedná se o uran 235, kterým budou naplněny bomby určené pro Hirošimu. Křižník bez problémů vyložil olověné válce s uranem na ostrově Tinian a plavil se ke Guamu. Dle rozkazu měl přeplout Filipínské moře k ostrovu Leyte. Tam se už neobjevil. Byl torpédován japonskou ponorkou mezi Guamem a Leyte. Po dvanácti minutách bylo vše skončeno. Více než 300 mužů šlo ke dnu s lodí. Dalších 900 námořníků však zůstalo na hladině. Čekaly je čtyři dny a pět nocí plných hrůzy. Bez pitné vody v oceánu plném útočících žraloků.
