In "The Visit," a tragicomedy written in 1955, Swiss playwright Friedrich Dürrenmatt introduces one of his most singular female characters, Claire Zachanassian, a woman of perverse and malevolent charm. She offers her fellow townspeople a fabulous reward for their complicity in her vengeance. This grotesque tale explores the corruptibility of humanity, the manipulation of consent, and the relationship between morality and violence, revealing how even the most honest individuals can succumb to greed and selfishness.
