Camino Real

Set in a surreal police state reminiscent of a Latin American country, the play explores themes of corruption and the stifling of the human spirit through the interactions of iconic characters from history and literature, such as Don Quixote and Casanova. The arrival of the archetypal Kilroy, an optimistic sailor, introduces a contrast to the despair surrounding him. This edition features an illuminating Introduction by John Guare, along with Williams' original Foreword and Afterword, a one-act play, and an insightful essay by Tennessee Williams scholar Michael Paller.
