The Analysis of the Self is the first significant work by American psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Heinz Kohut that initiated a new era in the study of narcissism. In this book, Kohut develops a new theory that attempts to remain within the framework of classical psychoanalysis, based on narcissistic transfers. Kohut, who approaches narcissism with an empathetic understanding free from value judgments, received both great acclaim and harsh criticism for this work. His opponents accused him of "satisfying rather than analyzing the transfer." As a result, a new theoretical division emerged in the history of psychoanalysis; the debate between Kohut and Kernberg continues to this day. The author's cohesive work, The Restoration of the Self, is also published by Metis. Listening to the Other is a specialized series. However, all the books in the series will directly relate to humanity. They will provide information about our lives, our personal experiences, our parents, our relationships with them, and our difficult growing-up years. This knowledge will help develop our insights about ourselves and others, offer new possibilities for understanding, and undoubtedly provide information that everyone will test against their own experiences while learning. We aimed to create a library that brings together the fundamental works written in the fields of psychiatry and psychoanalysis over the past century.
