This collection of essays brings to the fore some of the most pressing concerns in the training of translators and interpreters. It does so by acknowledging the primary role of research in both the development and the results of that training. The eleven chapters of the book, authored by a range of established international scholars, touch on the interlocking nature of didactics and research and address advances in cognitive processes, quality assessment and socio-professional issues with regard to their significance for translation and interpreting training. With this volume, the editors aim to illustrate some of the most recent insights into the interplay between scientific progress and the educational stages of prospective translators and interpreters.

El objetivo de este trabajo es estudiar los presupuestos teóricos de la traductología funcionalista a partir del análisis de sus metáforas conceptuales. El marco teórico y metodológico es el de la teoría cognitiva de la metáfora (Lakoff-Johnson 1980). El estudio se centra en dos obras que recogen los fundamentos teóricos del funcionalismo alemán: Grundlegung einer allgemeinen Translationstheorie (Reiß-Vermeer 1984) y Translatorisches Handeln. Theorie und Methode (Holz-Mänttäri 1984). El análisis sistemático de las expresiones metafóricas detectadas en estas obras ha llevado a identificar dos metáforas conceptuales y a mostrar algunas de las contradicciones que implica su uso. Partiendo del marco teórico del cognitivismo de segunda generación es posible desarrollar un modelo traductológico en el que no se plantean tales contradicciones y desarrollar de forma coherente el funcionalismo de Vermeer y Holz-Mänttäri.
