Die Schülerinnen und Schüler können mit Hilfe des Internets einen typischen US-Wahlkampf in „Echtzeit“ miterleben und sich dazu tagesaktuelle Quellen wie Nachrichten, Statistiken und Prognosen, Presseerklärungen der jeweiligen Wahlkampflager sowie die Fernsehdebatten erarbeiten. Aber auch die Reaktionen zu ausgewählten Zeitpunkten des Wahlkampfes von Internetbenutzern in den USA und weltweit können anhand der „neuen“ neuen Medien wie Diskussionsforen, Blogs, Twitter oder Youtube in den Englischunterricht eingebaut werden und damit auch Partizipationsmöglichkeiten für Schülerinnen und Schüler erschließen. Das Internet macht die Unterschiedserfahrung zu den vertrauten Wahlen in Deutschland und Europa in besonders intensiver Weise lebendig und ist daher auch als interkulturelle Lernquelle wertvoll.

The book introduces a new theoretical framework focusing on personal security in the context of integration, supported by empirical data from 21 European countries. It examines the impacts of migration on both migrants and the receiving society, highlighting that ethnic closure and xenophobia stem from threatened identities, which hinder integration. By employing a quantitative approach, the author argues that embracing individuals' diverse identities fosters trust in others and political institutions, ultimately enhancing confidence in the future of society.

This book approaches the analysis of English and American literature from a perspective of Identity Theory and Social Identity Theory. Part I looks at individual identity and seeks to relate plots and characters to the authors' own biographies whereby different authors, genres, and literary periods were included. Part II comparatively focuses on issues of class identity and its representation in terms of linguistic markers in English and American literature with illustrating examples from Thomas Hardy and Mark Twain.
