In today's landscape, it is crucial for university managers to possess the knowledge and skills essential for leading modern higher education institutions. Effective management facilitates collaboration with various partners, from local businesses to international enterprises. As institutions expand and diversify their functions, the complexity of academic administration increases, highlighting the need for skilled management personnel. This publication is the result of the European Higher Education Management and Development (EHEMD) project, coordinated by Danube University Krems and funded by the EU's Erasmus Lifelong Learning Programme. It emphasizes both theoretical perspectives and practical applications, illustrated through case studies that cover key aspects of contemporary university management. Each chapter focuses on a specific element of management, aligning with the core contents of the EHEMD curriculum. While we affirm that higher education management can be taught, it requires a solid pedagogical foundation. The EHEMD program is interdisciplinary, practice-oriented, and encourages collaborative and independent learning. With a focus on Central, Southern, and Eastern Europe, this book addresses current and future management challenges in higher education.
