Exploring Earth's geological structure, the book delves into the layers beneath the crust, including the mantle and core. It highlights Alfred Wegener's groundbreaking 1915 theory that a single landmass existed 200 million years ago, which was fragmented by molten magma pushing the crust apart. Wegener's contributions laid the foundation for the study of plate tectonics, reshaping our understanding of continental formation and movement.

      Investigating Plate Tectonics
    • Alfred Wegener, an accomplished astronomer and meteorologist, is renowned for his groundbreaking theories on continental drift and plate tectonics, proposing that Earth's continents were once joined. His observations of the continents fitting together like a puzzle laid the foundation for understanding geological changes, including volcanic activity. Despite initial rejection of his ideas, they gained acceptance posthumously and are now fundamental to the scientific explanation of Earth's dynamic processes.
