In zehn Kapiteln lernt der Leser die verschiedenen Tiere und ihre Eigenarten näher kennen. Im Mittelpunkt steht Pu, ein gutmütiger und immer hungriger Bär, der lustige Alltagssituationen erlebt. So steigt er auf der Suche nach Honig mit einem Ballon auf und muss dann von Christopher Robin gerettet werden. Seine Naschsucht führt dazu, dass er nach einem »kleinen Mundvoll« bei Kaninchen im Ausgang stecken bleibt und eine Woche lang warten muss, bis er wieder schlanker wird. Mit seinem Freund Ferkel erlebt der Bär ebenfalls spannende Abenteuer: Gemeinsam verfolgen sie in zunehmender Aufregung die sich ständig vermehrenden Spuren eines unbekannten Tieres rund um einen Baum, bis sich herausstellt, dass es ihre eigenen Spuren sind.

The book by the English author consists of two parts - The Jungle Book (1894) and The Second Jungle Book (1895) - which narrate a series of adventures of an Indian boy raised by wild animals in the jungle. As he matures, he returns to human society, which he subconsciously longs for. Life in the wild, governed by the natural laws of necessity, allows the author to reflect on human society, where the balance between good and necessary evil is disrupted. It is essentially a prose epic featuring animal characters, primarily set in the Indian jungle. The first book contains seven stories, while the second contains eight, each introduced by a short poem and followed by additional poetic texts that complement the narratives. More than half of these tales (three in the first and five in the second part) focus on the young boy Mowgli, who was abducted by a man-eating tiger and saved by a wolf pack. In this world, animals communicate with each other, while humans remain oblivious to their language. Mowgli learns the language of the animals and becomes an integral part of the jungle and a member of the wolf pack.

Alenka v říši divů je dílo anglického matematika a logika Lewise Carrolla, který ji údajně napsal pro malou holčičku Alici Liddellovou. Dílu se dostalo vědecké interpretace a bylo označeno za mimořádné. Sama hlavní postava, neustále ohromená Alenka v bezděčných reakcích na imaginativní svět plný podivuhodných věcí a událostí, Carrollův um logicky svázat absurdum světa v celé šíři a líčená přirozenost i znalost dětského chování, zaručili dílu světové uznání a přerod v klasiku. Kniha je provázená nádhernými ilustracemi slovenského grafika Dušana Kállaye.

Příběh malé Maisie je vyprávění o holčičce, kterou rozvodový soud nepřiřkl ani jen matce, ani otci. Střídavě má pobývat u obou. Rozvedení rodiče v ní zprvu vidí báječný prostředek pro svou pomstychtivost, ale po čase o ni ztrácejí zájem, a Maisie postupně začíná lnout k svým nevlastním rodičům, novým partnerům otce a matky, ke staré guvernantce paní Wixové i dalšímu služebnictvu. Vztahy jejich rodičů, vlastních i nevlastních, vstupují stále do nových kombinací, a Maisie –⁠ s vrozenou nevinností –⁠ uprostřed střetávajícího se světa dospělých je ponechána, aby si sama vytvořila jakýsi citlivý pohled na dobro a zlo.

›Zwischen den Akten‹ spielt im Sommer 1939, in einer Zeit politischer Umwälzungen in Europa, die zwar nicht direkt benannt werden, aber spürbar sind – von der Annexion Österreichs und der Tschechoslowakei bis zur Bedrohung Polens und dem Fall Barcelonas. Der Großteil des Romans entstand bereits nach der Niederlage Frankreichs und während des »Battle of Britain«, als die alte Welt zu zerfallen schien. Virginia Woolf reflektiert in diesem Werk über England, dessen Geschichte, Literatur, Landleben und Mentalität, dramatisch und episodisch an einem Sommertag erzählt. Die Erzählung ist durch lyrische Einlagen und Zitate geprägt, die von Charakteren in Anlehnung an große englische Poesie geschaffen werden. Woolfs Vision eines »vollständigen Ganzen« präsentiert sich als eine Art Gesamtkunstwerk, das jedoch eine Leichtigkeit und Skizzenhaftigkeit aufweist, die die Raffinesse der Konstruktion überlagern könnte. Am 20. März 1941 sandte sie das Typoskript an John Lehmann von der Hogarth Press und bat um sein Urteil, während sie selbst den »sogenannten Roman« als »viel zu leichtgewichtig« empfand. Lehmann war begeistert, doch am 27. März äußerte Woolf den Wunsch, das Werk zu überarbeiten, da sie es als zu trivial erachtete. Tragischerweise war sie am 28. März 1941 bereits verstorben.

Výběr čtyř Lawrenceových povídek. V nich jsou pro Lawrence charakteristicky středem pozornosti nejen emocionálně a osudově klíčové výseky ze života mladých žen a mužů tehdejší Anglie, příběhy, jejichž rámec tvoří vždy plasticky viděná příroda, ale i vnitřní, víc podvědomé impulsy či motivy jednání jeho hrdinů, sexuální psychologie jejich vztahů (ať jde o dospívající Yvette, kterou „probouzí“ náhodné setkání s cikánem, o vztah horníkovy ženy k otci jejích dětí, o vliv muže na přátelství dvou společně hospodařících dívek apod.). Ve všech se ozývají motivy pro Lawrence typické – nerovné nešťastné manželské svazky, probouzející se erotické city, překonávání puritánské výchovy v oblasti právě těchto citů, objevuje se tu prostředí hornické i prostředí venkovských far, oblasti, které autor zasvěceně znal a o jejichž životě proto píše zajímavě a neotřele.
