Die ZETEMATA sind eine altertumswissenschaftliche Monographienreihe. Sie wurde 1951 von Erich Burck und Hans Diller mit der Arbeit Sueton und die antike Biographie von Wolf Steidle begründet. Seit ihren Anfängen erscheint die Reihe im Verlag C. H. Beck, München. Heute wird die Reihe von Jonas Grethlein (Heidelberg), Martin Korenjak (Innsbruck) und Hans-Ulrich Wiemer (Erlangen) in Verbindung mit Thomas Baier (Würzburg) und Dieter Timpe (Würzburg) herausgeben. Das Themenspektrum der ZETEMTATA umfasst Geschichte und Literatur des griechisch-römischen Altertums. Die Publikationssprachen in den ZETEMATA sind neben dem Deutschen auch Englisch, Französisch und Italienisch. Bislang sind 151 Bände in der Reihe erschienen, weitere sind in Vorbreitung; der größte Teil der Bände ist noch lieferbar.

These articles underline the pervasive presence of anthropological reflection in Schelling‹s philosophy, a subject which has received little attention up to now. And yet since the ‹Treatise on the Essence of Human Freedom‹ at the latest it can be said that there was an anthropological turn in Schelling‹s thinking. Man is no longer seen solely from the perspective of the absolute but conversely the absolute is increasingly seen from the perspective of man. Thus the advancement of anthropology to a fundamental philosophy, which emerged quite openly in post-idealist philosophy, could already be seen in Schelling‹s writings.

The articles collected in this volume, written by Jörg Jantzen, Birgit Sandkaulen, Hans Michael Baumgartner, Lore Hühn and Michaela Boenke on the Schelling-Tag (Schelling Day) at the University of Jena in 1995, along with the first German translation of a text by Jean-François Courtine, provide a critical introduction to Schelling‹s writings in 1795: ‹Vom Ich als Princip der Philosophie‹ (Of the Ego as the Principle of Philosophy) and ‹Philosophische Briefe über Dogmatismus und Kriticismus‹ (Philosophical Letters on Dogmatism and Criticism).
