This volume contains twelve poetic short stories and photographic images, each imbued with themes of melancholy. Black Bile was a term used in medieval medicine and was said to be one of the four humours (fluids) secreted by the body that was responsible for a person's temperament. The other three bodily humours included blood-associated with a charismatic disposition; phlegm-a relaxed disposition; and yellow bile-an irritable disposition. Black Bile was said to be secreted by the kidneys or spleen and was responsible for melancholy.
