Reynold A. Nicholson

    Reynold Alleyne Nicholson war der bedeutendste Rumi-Gelehrte im englischsprachigen Raum und widmete sein Leben dem Studium des islamischen Mystizismus. Er besaß die Fähigkeit, wichtige Sufi-Texte aus dem Arabischen, Persischen und Osmanisch-Türkischen zu studieren und zu übersetzen. Sein bedeutendster Beitrag war sein monumentales Werk über Rumis Masnawi, für das er die erste kritische persische Ausgabe, die erste vollständige englische Übersetzung und den ersten umfassenden englischen Kommentar erstellte. Diese wissenschaftliche Leistung hatte einen tiefgreifenden und bleibenden Einfluss auf die Rumi-Studien weltweit, und sein Kommentar wurde sogar ins Persische übersetzt.
