Der libanesisch-amerikanische Schriftsteller, Mystiker und Maler Khalil Gibran wurde im frühen 20. Jahrhundert durch seine spirituelle Erzählung "Der Prophet" weltweit berühmt. Nur wenigen ist bekannt, dass er auch zahlreiche andere Werke geschaffen hat, die im Geiste dem "Propheten" nahestehen. Eines davon ist "Sand und Schaum", eine Sammlung von Aphorismen, die Gibran im Laufe seines Lebens gesammelt hatte und von denen manche auch sein Hauptwerk inspirierten. Im Jahre 1926 erschienen, wurde "Sand und Schaum" auch bald ins Deutsche übersetzt. Seit einiger Zeit als Einzelausgabe vergriffen, liegt das Werk nun hier in neuer Übersetzung und mit bearbeiteten Illustrationen Gibrans vor.
