Die Familie Schücking ist vor allem durch den Schriftsteller Levin Schücking bekannt, hat jedoch auch andere bedeutende Persönlichkeiten hervorgebracht, darunter den Juristen Walther Schücking und den Bürgermeister Lothar Engelbert Schücking. In dieser Publikation wird Levin Ludwig Schücking, ein Enkel von Levin Schücking, ins Rampenlicht gerückt. Er war ein angesehener Wissenschaftler und Literat, geboren in Burgsteinfurt und aufgewachsen in Münster und Sassenberg. Levin Ludwig Schücking war Professor für Englische Philologie an verschiedenen Universitäten, darunter Jena, Breslau und Leipzig, sowie nach 1945 in Erlangen und München. Als Shakespeare-Spezialist prägte er sein Fach mit einem literatursoziologischen Ansatz und wurde als „der letzte deutsche Anglist“ anerkannt. Sein „Lebensbild“, das hier erstmals aus seinem Nachlass veröffentlicht wird, gibt Einblicke in seine berufliche Entwicklung und privaten Beziehungen, unter anderem zu Börries von Münchhausen. Zudem wird der Schriftsteller Levin Ludwig Schücking skizziert, der vor und während seiner ersten Berufsjahre zahlreiche Gedichte und Balladen veröffentlichte, die qualitativ über der zeittypischen Lyrik junger Akademiker lagen. Die Erstedition seiner Lebenserinnerungen und der vollständige Neudruck seiner Werke bieten umfangreiche, zuvor unzugängliche Quellen für die Literaturwissenschaft.
