Die in diesem Band versammelten Beiträge sind im Wesentlichen zwei Zielen gewidmet: Zum einen rückt die Form des lateinischen Dramas in den Vordergrund und damit verbunden die Fragen, wie sehr diese Form vom literarischen und überhaupt gesellschaftlichen Kontext, in dem sie sich manifestierte, geprägt war und wie sie selbst diesen Kontext prägen konnte. Der zweite Schwerpunkt der Aufsätze liegt in dem Aufweis von Konstanten, die sich im Laufe der schöpferischen Rezeption des antiken lateinischen Dramas in späteren Epochen bis in die Moderne hinein gerade an formalen Elementen festmachen lassen. The essays of this volume address primarily two aspects of Latin drama. First, the authors examine the relationship between formal aspects of Latin drama and the ways in which Latin plays both responded to and influenced their literary and social surroundings. Second, the volume explores how Latin drama’s formal elements changed and remained the same as the genre developed through the ages from antiquity into modern times.
