In ihrem letzten Vertrauen auf die Mächtigen warten sie auf das Eintreffen der Dienste, während ihre Körper unter den Folgen der Strahlenkrankheit leiden, und gehen sanft in die Dunkelheit, einander liebend und Fragmente von Gebeten murmelnd.

Was macht der Weihnachtsmann im Juli? Nach der arbeitsreichen Weihnachtszeit natürlich Urlaub! Doch in Frankreich schmeckt ihm das Essen nicht, und in Schottland ist es viel zu kalt zum Baden Wird der Weihnachtsmann den perfekten Ort zum Ausspannen noch finden?

Was wäre Weihnachten ohne Weihnachtsmann und ohne Schneemann? Nie ist für Kinder der Zauber des ersten Schnees und Schneemannbauens schöner ins Bild gesetzt worden als mit diesem Bilderbuch ohne Worte. Ein Junge baut sich einen Schneemann, der nachts zum Leben erwacht. Der Junge lädt ihn ins Haus ein und zeigt ihm seine alltägliche Umgebung. Dann nimmt der Schneemann den Jungen zu einem Rundflug über die nächtliche Großstadt mit. Am nächsten Morgen ist der Schneemann geschmolzen. Vor zwanzig Jahren zum ersten Mal erschienen, ist der Klassiker zugleich für Erwachsene eine Parabel von der Vergänglichkeit. Ermutigt von seiner Frau Hilda, die ebenfalls mehr Abenteuer in ihr Leben bringen möchte, macht sich Jim daran, seine Träume zu verwirklichen, indem er verschiedene Utensilien ansammelt. Dabei stellt er fest, dass das Leben eines Executives, eines Künstlers oder eines Cowboys komplizierter und kostspieliger ist, als es scheint.

Nein zu den Hosen aus Stein!: UG ist ein kleiner Junge, der unter der Steinzeit zu leiden hat. Die Hosen sind zu hart, aber auch das Frühstück aus totem Tier schmeckt nicht und statt mit Steinen zu spielen, wäre es doch schön, es gäbe etwas Rundes, Weicheres. Mutter und Vater machen sich, im Steinbett liegend, den Bettstein übergezogen, öfters mal Sorgen oder fühlen sich schikaniert von den Ideen ihres Sprösslings. Doch UGs Ideen sind, wie wir als Leserschaft wissen, nicht so aussergewöhnlich, entsprechen sie doch der Weiterentwicklung der Menschheit (Feuer, Rad, Stoffkleider u.s.w.). Die lustig illustrierte Bildgeschichte mit Sprechblasen kann zwar Kinder interessieren, der eigentliche Witz bleibt ihnen verborgen oder ist zumindest nicht so amüsant für sie wie aus der Perspektive der Erwachsenen.
