This work explores the significance of systems engineering in planning complex production systems. It begins with an introduction and objectives, followed by an examination of the system concept, design, project organization, and management of planning projects. The analysis of planning situations highlights weaknesses in the production of car body structures. The text discusses computer-assisted tools for planning, including ideal and rough layout planning, detailed layout planning, and information preparation, along with a critical evaluation of these tools. Requirements for an integrated computer-assisted planning tool are outlined, focusing on information and control systems as well as function-oriented layout planning systems. The conception of such a tool is detailed, emphasizing support for target planning, conceptual planning phases, design phases, and elaboration phases, alongside the potential for computer assistance. The system PLATO-MAP is introduced, detailing its functional concept, components, and program structure. Application examples demonstrate project management and methodological planning approaches. The work concludes with a summary and a literature reference section, encapsulating the essential aspects of integrating systems engineering into the planning of complex production environments.
