Material presented here represents the European move in dentistry toward focusing on the patient's interests rather than on the dentist's. Restorative approaches are described as alternative interventions to deep-seated modes of treatment. Emphasis in this approach is on risk assessment and decision making with regard to the patient's dietary habits, social status, ethnic background, and oral hygiene practices.
