The International School on Physics and Astrophysics of Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECR2000) took place at the Observatoire de Paris–Meudon from June 26-29, 2000, marking the first international event focused specifically on ultra high energy cosmic rays. Its goal was to engage students, physicists, and astronomers in this rapidly evolving research area. The enigmatic origins of the most energetic particles observed in nature have sparked theoretical discussions, ranging from electromagnetic acceleration to potential new physics beyond the Standard Model. This has led to innovative detection concepts and experimental projects, some of which are currently under construction. The interdisciplinary nature of ultra high energy cosmic rays draws from astrophysics, cosmology, particle physics, experimental physics, and observational astronomy. The school highlighted this interdisciplinarity, organizing lectures into subtopics. The volume includes an introductory lecture on cosmic rays, followed by contributions on experimental detection techniques and discussions on acceleration in astrophysical objects. Subsequent lectures address major aspects of the propagation and interactions of ultra high energy radiation, including speculative topics like new interactions.
