The characteristics of software systems are rapidly evolving as we enter the age of ubiquitous information services. Persistent computing systems are increasingly embedded in everyday objects, interacting autonomously to deliver complex services accessible anytime and anywhere. This shift not only increases the number of software components but also significantly alters their qualitative nature. Modern software systems consist of autonomous, proactive, networked components that interact in ways that defy traditional models of interaction and service coordination. Future systems may resemble natural systems and societies more than mechanical architectures. This evolution presents exciting challenges for computer scientists and software engineers. While software agents and multi-agent systems are recognized as effective technologies for modeling and constructing complex distributed applications, there is a lack of systematic development methods for these complex software systems. There is an urgent need for innovative approaches to software modeling and engineering that facilitate the deployment of systems with numerous autonomous components, enabling us to control and predict their behavior effectively.
