Reed habitats are ecologically rich areas that support diverse plant and animal life. However, their ecological value is increasingly threatened by regional economic development, including industrial and agricultural expansion, tourism, transportation infrastructure, and various forms of pollution. To address these challenges, there is an urgent need for balanced management strategies that integrate spatial planning for nature conservation and sustainable regional development. Reliable methodologies for spatial monitoring and mapping of reed stands are essential for effective conservation and resource management. Large wetland areas benefit from hybrid methods of airborne and spaceborne remote sensing, combined with detailed ground sampling. Various sensor systems and image types capture a wide range of spectral bands, providing high-resolution data on land cover and use. The operational application of these systems for detailed mapping of wetland vegetation, particularly reed communities, is still in its early stages. However, there is a growing number of initiatives from administrative and research institutions aimed at enhancing these methodologies in recent years.
