After a residency fellowship at the Deutsche Akademie Villa Massimo in Rome, the author founded a planning association for innovative environmental forms in 1965 with Zero artist Hermann Goepfert. Their collaboration led to a successful redesign of the Schloßpark in Karlsruhe for the Bundesgartenschau in 1967, which earned the prestigious Hugo-Häring-Preis. From 1991 until his retirement in 2002, he directed the art and public-space course at the Akademie der bildenden Künste in Nuremberg. His architectural style stands out as individualistic and oppositional compared to other post-World War II designs. Unlike the playful elements of Postmodernism or the functionalism of New Building, his work is deeply intertwined with the art scene of his era. The integration of art and architecture is a hallmark of his creations, which he refers to as "object architecture," a term he coined. This approach aligns more closely with fine art than traditional architecture. From the outset, he viewed architecture as an artistic discipline, with light kinetics providing him with new perspectives. Lighting design and the resulting color changes of white walls are crucial elements in his work.
