Graham Pilgrimm, a middle-aged, divorced and underachieving local government officer inadvertently finds himself framed for murder by the seductive Frieda. We follow the story of his fight to prove his innocence from the safety of an allotment shed, helped by his well-meaning but largely inadequate friends, his feisty daughter, a 'ghost' from his past and an ambitious young reporter called Becky. Through the fight to clear his name, he discovers a hidden courage and determination that transforms him into a local folk hero, finally fulfilling a long-held ambition.
