Focusing on the potential of metal oxide nanocrystals, this thesis investigates their use in photocatalytic water splitting to generate clean hydrogen fuel from water and solar energy. It examines the impact of co-catalyst addition to niobium oxide nanotubes and introduces iron oxide 'rust' in nanocrystal suspensions for oxygen production. Additionally, it explores a nickel/oxide-strontium titanate nanocomposite, one of the few nanoscale photocatalysts for water splitting, while analyzing charge transport in these systems. The research aims to advance the design of inorganic nanomaterials for solar energy conversion.
