The narrative shifts focus in part II to Victoria Tillington, the only daughter of the local nobility, whose seemingly mundane dog walk ignites unforeseen events in the village of Middlewapping. Struggling with loneliness, Victoria views her home as her last chance for redemption, especially as she anticipates the return of her long-lost love.
