Misapplication of the Malayan Counterinsurgency Model to the Strategic Hamlet Program

The book examines the strategic hamlet program in Vietnam, highlighting its failure due to the inappropriate application of the Malayan counterinsurgency model. It contrasts the unique ethnic and insurgency dynamics in Malaya with those in South Vietnam, emphasizing how these differences undermined the program's goal of isolating rural populations from the Viet Cong. Drawing on primary sources from participants in both conflicts, the thesis also offers insights and lessons for future counterinsurgency operations.
