Masculine Identity in Modernist Literature

Exploring the modernist narrative voice, this study examines its relationship with medical, mythological, and psychoanalytic themes of emasculation from 1919 to 1945. It highlights how innovations in rhetoric and form, influenced by modernist trends in psychoanalysis and occultism, transformed narrative structures and representations of masculinity. By analyzing early twentieth-century Anglo-American literature, the book reveals how writers and readers engaged with the concept of textual absence, shaping their perceptions of masculine anxiety and optimism.
