Commissioned by Carnegie Hall, this work features two contrasting pieces that explore simultaneous musical ideas, showcasing the complexity of contemporary piano composition. First performed by Kirill Gerstein in 2000 at Weill Recital Hall, it has been recorded by notable pianists such as Charles Rosen and Ursula Oppens. The pieces offer a unique listening experience within an 8-minute duration, reflecting innovative approaches in modern music.
