Ordinary Times; Extraordinary Measures

Set in the 1930s, the story follows Neomi Jean Hattisburg, a young Black woman grappling with her identity amidst societal prejudices. Raised by her father, a railroad porter, and her mother, a domestic worker, Neomi is instilled with strong values but faces confusion due to her appearance, which resembles that of White individuals. This duality affects her relationships with both White and Black communities, highlighting themes of race, identity, and the quest for self-acceptance in a divided society.
