Set in Venice, the story follows Franzicco Ragoczy di Santo-Germano, a prosperous merchant whose wealth and rumored jewels make him a target for danger. His noble and papal connections provide a shield against imprisonment and property loss. Alongside him is Pier-Ariana Salier, a gifted musician and his mistress, who also finds herself under scrutiny. The narrative explores themes of power, danger, and the complexities of love in a world filled with intrigue.
