Country of Origin (Revised)

The story follows Lisa Countryman, a woman of mixed heritage who returns to Tokyo for thesis research but mysteriously disappears. Her case is taken on by Tom Hurley, a half-Korean, half-white investigator from the American embassy, and local detective Kenzo Ota, a fully Japanese cop viewed as an outsider. The narrative explores themes of identity and belonging against the backdrop of Japan's societal pressures, intertwining the characters' diverse backgrounds as they seek to unravel the mystery of Lisa's fate.
