While on convalescent duty as an orderly to General Lovell Rousseau, McGee is credited with leading a Federal force to victory, capturing two guns and hundreds of prisoners, and protecting Fortress Rosecrans from the notorious General Nathan Bedford Forrest. His bravery highlights the significant contributions of young soldiers in wartime.
