Katherine Stewart hopes that a year away from home and university will help her decide what she wants from life and who she really is. In the autumn of 1971, she takes up a post as a teaching assistant in Paris, a city still coming to terms with the aftermath of the failed '68 Revolution. People from every level of Parisian society cross Katherine's path, including migrant workers, students, revolutionaries and artists.
