A Home We've Built is a compilation of written works from Ukrainian and international writers who participated in the 4th cycle of the America House Kyiv Creative Writing program. The program launched on February 2nd. On February 24th, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. After a brief hiatus, the program resumed and continued running virtually to completion in August 2022. Out of 15 participants, 11 completed the full program. Though not intended as a wartime reflection, the unavoidable backdrop made its way into the final works. Through eleven unique stories and four additional short pieces, this book offers a glimpse into life during and in spite of war. The stories explore the process of finding your home and show that even during such dark times, it is still possible to experience moments of hope, love, and joy.
