The 13th Arnold Tross Colloquium took place at the 19th of May 2017 and was an interesting and successful meeting to discuss new research results in Tribology. The program was variegated and required a whole day of concentration. Ambitious topics were presented and covered a scale from nano to macro, from dry to lubricated contacts from numerical simulation to analytical analysis.

At the 14th of June 2013 the 9th Arnold Tross Colloquium was held at our university. More than 35 participants from several sectors of industry and universities visited the colloquium. A lively debate took place between the presentation and after the official part. As always the conference presents investigations of fundamental questions and applications in machine elements. A pleasurable atmosphere supported the exchange of ideas and enabled a discussion about new and surprising viewpoints. It was the second time that we welcomed researchers from University of Porto. A very intensively discussed paper came from University of Stuttgart. Dr. Bauer presented his work about Tribology of seals and delivered very interesting results.

Its a pleasure for me to produce the proceedings of the 8th Arnold Tross Colloquium. The tribological colloquium took place at the 8th of June 2012 and was a very interesting and successful opportunity to interchange results from different tribological research. This year the contributions were focused on the university research. The topics covered a wide range of tribological problems. Fundamental investigations and applied tribology were discussed. A novelty this year was a scientific demonstration about hydrodynamic and elasto-hydrodynamic by Harry van Leeuwen from TU Eindhoven. He chaired the second part of the conference. Thanks again. It was also a conference enrichment to welcome again a scientist from University of Huelva. 3 papers were engaged with bolted connections and investigated the friction situation. A very interesting example for the application of tribological knowledge. Machine elements like ball bearings, vehicle clutches and crankshaft journal bearings were investigated by numerical simulation and experimental work. And 2 papers concerned with special behaviour of lubricants and lubricated contacts. Prof. Dr. E. Kuhn

At the 17th of June 2011 the 7th Arnold Tross Colloquium was held. It took place at the Institute of Engineering Design and Product Development (IKP) and connected university research and industry research. A wide range of topics were presented. From nano to macro scale, from real machine elements and new test devices to fundamental investigations. Two papers were based on the so called Energetical Approach of Tribology (EAT).

In June 2010 the 6th Arnold Tross Colloquium was held. It was a very successful conference with participants from 4 european countries. Experts from industry and members of universities were listen to 11 papers. The presentations covered a wide range of topics and I was very pleased to find a number or papers dealing with Grease Tribology. That was the reason that some of the colloquium participants spoke of a Grease-Colloquium for 2010. Research reports from industry and university were presented and the atmosphere during the discussions and talks was very comfortable. It was a pleasure for me to see some of our students were listen to some of the papers and I hope we could initiate some interests for Tribology. Its always interesting to see some scientists are working in a more fundamental area and other are trying to apply their knowledge to different machine elements. But both groups of researchers try to understand more the nature of friction and wear. I hope our colloquium can support all this work.
