„Erziehung ist ‚Liebe‘“ ist ein ungewöhnlicher Titel für eine Geigenmethode und deutet darauf hin, dass dieses Buch mehr bietet als einen herkömmlichen methodisch-didaktischen Lehrgang. Wer Suzuki aufmerksam liest, erkennt, dass die musikalische Ausbildung für ihn ein Weg zur Selbstverwirklichung und zum Selbstverständnis des Menschen ist. Die Methode, die auf der Übertragung der Muttersprache basiert, verbindet sich mit der alten Tradition des Zen, die sowohl in Japan als auch im Westen, besonders bei Menschen, die vom Materialismus und dem Glauben an Technik enttäuscht sind, auf wachsendes Interesse stößt. Der Autor Shinichi Suzuki, geboren in Nagoya, Japan, erlernte das Geigenspielen erst mit siebzehn Jahren. Nach seinem Studium in Tokio verbrachte er acht Jahre als Schüler von Karl Klingler in Berlin. 1928 kehrte er mit seiner Frau Waltraud nach Japan zurück, um zu unterrichten und Konzerte zu geben. Zusammen mit seinen Brüdern gründete er das Suzuki-Quartett und entdeckte das Lernpotenzial sehr kleiner Kinder, was zur Gründung des bekannten Talenterziehungs-Instituts führte. Seine Methode beeindruckte Professor Clifford Cook so sehr, dass er sie im Oberlin-College-Konservatorium einführte.
