Ce volume publie quelques-unes des communications prononcées lors de sept journées internationales d'étude consacrées - par le Centre de Recherches Révolutionnaires et Romantiques de l'Université Blaise-Pascal - aux questions d'histoire de la langue et d'histoire de la linguistique française. La thèse soutenue au cours de ces séances était qu'il existe une congruence latente - mais forte et observable - entre le développement même de la langue et celui du savoir institutionnel que développe la recherche sur cet objet.
