Das Lehrbuch bietet einen Überblick über die Literatur des Neuen Testaments mit allen wichtigen Aspekten. Nach einer allgemeinen Einführung in die Hermeneutik biblischer Texte und die historischen Voraussetzungen des Neuen Testaments stellen Petr Pokorny und Ulrich Heckel jede neutestamentliche Schrift mit ihrem Inhalt, ihrer Entstehungssituation und insbesondere ihrer Theologie vor.

Dieser Band versammelt neunzehn Studien Petr Pokornýs zur Jesusforschung und zu den Anfängen der Christologie. In den einzelnen Aufsätzen befasst er sich mit dem Problem der Beziehung der ur- und frühchristlichen Christologie(n) zum Jesus der Geschichte, mit der theologischen Begründung der Jesus-Forschung und ihrer Beziehung zur systematischen Theologie und Philosophie sowie mit der Methodologie der kritischen Jesusforschung. Mehrere Beiträge betreffen Einzelfragen, wie die Beziehung des Jesus von Nazareth zu Johannes dem Täufer, Paulus und Jesus sowie die Sprache der ältesten Traditionen über Jesus. Zudem untersucht der Autor die Bergpredigt und die innere Struktur ihrer Ethik, die Passionsgeschichte oder die Darstellung der Rolle von Jesus in den einzelnen Evangelien und in außerchristlichen Zeugnissen.

The authors of these English and German essays focus on the analysis of the hermeneutical process, which is what occurs when texts are interpreted successfully. They are based on talks given at a symposium on 'Philosophical Hermeneutics' held at the Center for Biblical Studies in Prague in November 2001. In addition to an introductory essay by Paul Ricoeur about the basic problems of philosophical hermeneutics, the volume contains contributions from prominent researchers from all religious denominations on the subjects of philosophical hermeneutics, exegesis, and theology.

This book originated in the Donatio Universitatis Carolinae award and research support that Professor Petr Pokorný received in 2017. It was envisioned, designed, and originally conducted as a project exploring the biblical roots of Christian culture. Experts in various theological and philosophical disciplines, both from the Czech Republic and abroad, were to probe this topic from their particular perspectives. The hoped-for output was to be a coherent collective study of the proposed topic. However, due to the unexpected passing away of Prof. Pokorný in early 2020, the project could not be executed according to the original plan. Rather than a collective monograph, therefore, the present book is a collection of essays that investigate various aspects of the Bible and Christianity in their relation to culture as a broad human phenomenon. The book is divided into two sections. While the first section focuses on particular issues in the Bible, the second addresses historical, philosophical, and cultural developments. As Petr Pokorný was actively and importantly involved in the initial stages of the project, two essays are written by him personally. The whole book, then, is dedicated in his honor.

Rozsáhlý Úvod do Nového zákona, který se konečně dostává k českým čtenářům, sepsal profesor Pokorný – na objednávku tübingenského nakladatelství Mohr-Siebeck – jako univerzitní učebnici dvou oborů: literárního úvodu do Nového zákona a teologie Nového zákona. Vzhledem k tomu, že od vydání staršího a podstatně kratšího českého Literárního a teologického úvodu do Nového zákona (Vyšehrad 1993) vstoupila biblistika v metodologii i výsledcích jednotlivých exegetických projektů do nové etapy, rozhodl se celou látku zpracovat nově. Strukturou zůstává sice kniha blízká žánru literárních úvodů (kdo, kdy, kde, pro koho a proč jednotlivé texty sepsal), přesahuje je však důsledným pojednáním teologie jednotlivých spisů a vrstev Nového zákona a přináší též náčrt celkové koncepce novozákonního kánonu. Díky přispění Ulricha Heckela se pak kniha stala skutečnou učebnicí se shrnutími obsahu biblických knih, přehledy a tabulkami; tento německý teolog ji též obohatil o některé údaje týkající se dobového pozadí vzniku Nového zákona, tematická shrnutí a v oddílech o janovských spisech a deuteropavlovských listech má významný podíl i na vlastním výkladu.
