Der Band gibt einen weitreichenden Einblick in die Arbeit der Kirchenväter-Kommission, die seit 1891 an der Preußischen Akademie der Wissenschaften die Edition der Griechischen Christlichen Schriftsteller betreute und die bis heute ihre Publikations- und Forschungstätigkeit im Rahmen der Berlin-Brandenburgischen Akademie der Wissenschaften fortsetzt. Im Protokollbuch hielt Adolf von Harnack, der Gründer und erste Vorsitzende der Kirchenväterkommission, 1897 bis 1928 die Diskussionen und Ergebnisse ihrer Sitzungen fest. Das für die Geschichte der Patristik aufschlußreiche historische Dokument des berühmten Kirchenhistorikers wird sowohl als Faksimile des Originals dargeboten als auch in einer diplomatischen Umschrift von Stefan Rebenich zugänglich gemacht.
