The multicultural world we live in and the global movement of professionals imply that all those working with people with communication disorders are obliged to continually develop their cross-cultural competence. This publication brings together discussions pertaining to both international and cross-cultural issues in the field of human communication disorders. In the papers research data, theoretical considerations, and/or first-hand experience are presented. The publication is divided into two parts: the first discusses conceptual and theoretical issues, whereas the second reports on particular examples of international and cross-cultural endeavors. A concluding essay synthesizes key themes and identifies issues for future consideration. Contributors are located around the world and represent a range of countries, cultures, languages and ages. All have experiences with cultures other than their own. Speech and language therapists/pathologists will find this publication essential reading to develop their understanding of international and cross-cultural issues
