Hundreds of languages worldwide have undergone direct or indirect Hispanisation during the Spanish colonial empire, with many still borrowing from Spanish daily, particularly in Latin America. This volume explores various contact constellations where Spanish serves as the donor language. The articles illustrate that comparing contact-induced processes in Hispanised languages across Austronesia and the Americas is possible, leading to significant insights into language contact theory. The volume is organized into two geographical sections. Section I addresses Spanish contacts in Latin America, featuring studies on the Hispanisation of Nahuatl varieties, Spanish-Zapotec interactions, and Hispanisms in Kuna from Panama. It also examines lexical borrowing constraints from Spanish into Imbabura Quichua and redefines the concept of relexification through the Media Lengua language. Section II focuses on the influence of Spanish on Austronesian and South-East Asian languages. It discusses the reversal of Rapanui's heavy Hispanisation, compares Hispanisation processes in the Mariana Islands and Rapa Nui, and reviews various Philippine languages' degrees of Hispanisation. Additionally, it explores Chamorro speakers' attitudes toward Hispanisms. This volume is particularly valuable for students of language contact, as well as scholars in Romance linguistics, Hispanic philology, Austronesian studies, and Amerindian studies.
