The present study addresses the economical usage of the neem tree in Ghana, on the production and sale of the neem oil. This paper represents the research part of a development project to support the rural population of Ghana. In a technical feasibility study the authors present concepts to produce neem oil as efficiently as possible at low investment costs. The separate steps of this process are described in detail and clearly presented in a flow chart. The compiled mass balance finally provides information about the resource requirements. The data calculated in the technical feasibility study provide the basis for an economic feasibility study. In an investment calculation the financial benefits of participating in this project are presented in detail. Calculations of various scenarios offer an overview of the most important economical parameters, e. g. the critical sales price of oil or the maximum wages. In the final chapter the ecological, social and cultural dimensions of the neem tree’s economical usage are discussed.
