CO₂-assistance is an innovative method to improve the efficiency of oilseed pressing procedures, e. g. de-oiling of rapeseeds. Under conventional cold-pressing conditions, oil yield is limited, but high margin products can be produced (virgin oils). In this innovative method, dense CO₂ is provided in the pressing chamber of a cage screw press, which dissolves into the oil of the seeds what by cause of different effects increases the oil yield of the process. This work deals with diffusion kinetics of CO₂ within the oil of the pressing materials, the clarification of working effects during CO₂-assistance, the quantification of significant process parameter influences as well as test results of CO₂-assisted pressing on industrial scale and it's economical evaluation. After all, a calculation model is presented which implies further process improvement potentials. CO₂-assisted pressing of rapeseeds concludes to be an option to get high oil yields in the production of high margin products.
