Rescuers of cypress

A response to existential negativity analyzing the heroic acts of rescue workers who saved lives and retrieved bodies form the Interstate-880 Cypress Street viaduct following the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. Stuhlmiller (U. of Tromso, Norway) presents the workers' reactions in their own words, pinning their experiences to a transactional framework which allows her to discuss the moral obligations of their heroism and the wider role of commitment to community that modern philosophers often disregard.
