Project cargo is one of the most interesting business areas in the logistics industry. Its specialcharacteristics containing the individual processes and complexity of planning and implementationmake this field very attractive and challenging for the logistician. A transportation of a turbine from Germany to India or several container terminal cranes from Shanghai to Bremerhaven needs a longterm planning and counts as a masterpiece for any team who organises all logistics processes until these projects are completed. Since the characteristics of each project cargo are often different, there are many details to be concerned during the planning process i. e. feasibility study, method statement, etc. A well-documented process description is therefore a good basis of successful planning and operation of project cargo. In this book, the value of process management approach in such a complex and individual environment is demonstrated. The author has adapted and applied an existing framework for process modeling of project and heavy-lift cargo. The research depicts how the selected framework, methodology and tool are used to create standard processes for transportation of this type of goods in order to reduce complexity and to create more understanding in the context for all involved parties. This standard process can be applied not only for any types of project and heavy-lift cargo but also for any ocean carrier. It also describes how the process information can be applied. Three main application areas are demonstrated: creation of process transparency; preparation of modular software design; and process simulation. With practical examples, the research delivers a systematic application of process modeling resulting in more efficient planning and precise control for such complex and challenging transportation process.
