Daniel's Return

Set in the 1950s, the narrative follows a Hopi Indian boy who must leave his home on the Hopi Reservation to attend a Bureau of Indian Affairs school. There, he faces indoctrination that devalues his heritage, teaching him that his race is inferior and his cultural practices are primitive. The story explores themes of identity, cultural assimilation, and the struggle to maintain one's heritage in the face of oppressive societal pressures, highlighting the personal and communal impact of forced separation from tribal culture.
