River of the Brokenhearted

Set in the 1920s, the story follows Janie McLeary, a young Irish Catholic woman, and her older English husband, George King, as they operate one of the first movie theatres in the Maritimes. Their partnership faces turmoil when George dies, leaving Janie to fend off the predatory Joey Elias, who seeks to seize control of the theatre.
