The nationality question in Austrian education

The author focuses on the problems faced by education in a multilingual and multinational state. By taking the perspective of Ukrainians in Polish dominated Galicia under Austria-Hungary, the work explores the historic, socio-economic and legal aspects of nationality policies and their practical effects on education at all levels. Case histories and statistical tables provide the researcher with a glimpse into a neglected aspect of nationality relations in Austria as well as the role of politics in education.
