Horatio Holmes hat seit seinen Tagen an der Longtides Elementary einen weiten Weg zurückgelegt. Seitdem hat er gelernt, das Horn schlecht zu spielen, hat als Verfasser von mathematischen Wettbewerbsaufgaben gearbeitet und sogar in Hamlet die Figur gespielt, nach der er benannt wurde. In anderer Hinsicht ist er immer noch derselbe: ein begeisterter Leser, ein Verfechter der Gerechtigkeit und jemand, der seine Hot Dogs mit Senf mag. Sein Schreiben ist oft voller Verspieltheit, aber auch tiefem Interesse an Gerechtigkeit.
